For most of us, owning private islands in the Caribbean is just a dream. But for some celebrities, it’s a reality. Although most stars prefer to keep the exact location of their houses a secret, the general locations of their private Caribbean hideaways are not. Here are 10 celebrities who have spent some of their millions on secluded real estate in the most beautiful region on earth!
Stars who own private islands in the Caribbean:
1. Johnny Depp

There’s no one more fitting than the star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to own Caribbean real estate! Johnny reportedly purchased a 45 acre island in the Bahamas in 2004, called Little Hall’s Pond Cay. At just a mile long and 1300 feet wide, the little island fetched the big price of $3.5 million dollars.
Interestingly, he reportedly first spotted the island while filming one of his epic Pirates movies. It has 6 pristine beaches, several of which he named after his ex wife and children.
2. Leonardo DiCaprio

Good ol’ Leo not only finally won that coveted Oscar a few years back, but he also bought himself a private island in the Caribbean. Known for his expensive tastes, DiCaprio purchased Blackadore Caye off the coast of Belize in 2015 for $1.75 million. He and his business partner are working to turn it into an eco-friendly luxury resort by 2020. They are hoping to power the resort entirely by renewable energy sources. In addition, DiCaprio has set aside 45% of the island for conservation purposes. There will also be a research station for ecological studies.
3. Julia Roberts

The “Pretty Woman” star reportedly owns her own private island in the Bahamas. However, just like most of the details about her personal life, Roberts has kept the exact location under wraps.
4. Tyler Perry

There are over 700 islands in the Bahamas, and only around 30 of them are inhabited. So there are plenty available for celebrities to purchase! It’s no wonder that many stars have picked the Bahamas for their private paradise hideaways. Tyler Perry purchased his piece of Caribbean paradise in 2009, a small island called White Bay Cay in the Exuma Cays. He even took pilot lessons so he could fly his private plane to the island!
5. Eddie Murphy

This comedic actor has claimed some tropical Caribbean real estate in (you guessed it) the Bahama! He once owned an island called Pearl, then purchased another in Rooster Cay in 2007. It reportedly cost him $15 million dollars.
Why such a high price tag, you might ask? It’s all about location. Rooster Cay is located just 5 minutes from Nassau. Talk about convenience!
6. Nicolas Cage

Despite the fact that some love his movies and some love to hate them, Nicolas Cage is an incredibly successful actor who owns A LOT of real estate. In addition to his Rhode Island mansion, a haunted house in New Orleans, and TWO (yes, two) European castles, the “National Treasure” star owns a private island in the Bahamas. The island, located in the Exuma archipelago, cost him a sweet $3 million.
Called Leaf Island, this undeveloped piece of paradise is now up for sale for over 8 million dollars. Any takers?
7. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
The country music couple bought an island worth $18 million in the Exumas in 2003. Unlike many celebrities, they have shared their experiences there with the world, giving interviews and even allowing film crews to give us all a glimpse of the inside of their luxurious home. However, it took years to perfect, since the island lacked basic infrastructure. They couldn’t actually move in until 2012. Nevertheless, they say the wait was worth it. “We’ve been all over the world,” Hill told Architectural Digest. “And we really wanted to create a special place we couldn’t find anywhere else.”
8. Lenny Kravitz

Kravitz was already familiar with the Bahamas before he decided to buy his own private island in the Caribbean. His mother is from the Eleuthera archipelago.
While he’s not on tour, Kravitz spends most of his time in the Caribbean, which he considers home. Although he grew up in New York City, he traveled to the Bahamas often. “It’s the most special place to me,” he told AOL Magazine. “For instance, when I’m off and not touring, I go there. I don’t go somewhere else. I go home.”
9. Shakira

Shakira currently owns Bonds Cay, a small island north of the Bahamas. She bought it along with Roger Waters and Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz in 2011 in order to develop a resort for multi-millionaires. It already had some condos, luxury hotels, and an 18-hole golf course when the trio purchased it for a whopping $16 million.
Unfortunately, things got a bit ugly when Shakira broke up with her boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua, who had been working on several real estate projects on the island. In addition, there has been some legal controversy concerning the island, since several news outlets have reported that she may have been listing it as her permanent residency to avoid taxes in Spain.
Whatever the case may be, it appears that Bonds Cay is now up for sale.
10. David Copperfield
Of all the celebrities on our list, Copperfield is the one who owns the MOST private islands in the Caribbean: a whopping eleven. They’re all located in Exuma in the Southern Bahamas. And what sort of magic has this wealthy entertainer carried out on his islands? Well, he spent 5 years and $40 million to remodel and build homes, theaters, and other amenities. Now, the “Islands of Copperfield Bay” as they are called, host famous celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Johnny Depp.
