Redder på sjøen skje nå og da i Karibien, but it’s not often that someone gets saved by a celebrity! Leonardo DiCaprio, av Titanic fame, was instrumental in rescuing a drunk French man who fell off a Club Med yacht near St. Martin on December 30th, de Sun reports.
The actor was enjoying his vacation with girlfriend Camila Morrone and a few other pals when his vessel received a Mayday call about a man falling overboard. Tilsynelatende, a cruise worker had fallen off a ship after too many drinks, and was nowhere to be found. The captain sent out a desperate call for help, and DiCaprio’s vessel was the only one to answer.
Despite being hours away near the island of St. Bart, DiCaprio and his friends set off toward St. Martin, finally locating the man near the tiny island of Saba. På det punktet, he had been treading water for about 11 timer, and was severely dehydrated.
“[DiCaprio and his crew] were the only responders, and his only chance of survival, despite being hours away,” a source told The Sun. “The ‘man overboard’ was minutes from drowning when he was found. He had been treading water and still managed to flail his hands as Leonardo came near.”
An ironic rescue
It almost seemed like something you would expect to see in one of DiCaprio’s many Hollywood movies. But this time, the rescue was real.
The French crewman, identified only as “Victor”, could hardly believe his eyes when he caught sight of the actor after DiCaprio’s crew lifted him into the boat.
“He thought he was dreaming after being rescued by one of the world’s most famous faces,” a source told The Sun.
The man had defied incredible odds in order to survive such an ordeal. It was already dusk when he was found, and a rainstorm was closing in.
“The captain put the man’s chances of survival at one in a billion — like winning the lottery twice,” said the source.
The odds were one in a billion, and yet, it happened. After his rescue, “Victor” could only sob and say, “I should have died.”
DiCaprio and his friends gave him food, drink, and clothing before bringing him to the coastguards.
The 45-year old actor recently starred in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. His co-star, Brad Pitt poked fun at DiCaprio during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last month, si, ““He’s an all-star, he’s a gent. … Still, I would’ve shared the raft.”
Pitt was referring to DiCaprio’s role as Jack in the 1997 film Titanic. In the movie, Jack drowns after giving up the “raft” (actually a floating door) to his lover, Rose after the ship sinks. derimot, popular opinion is that there was room on the door for both of them.
I alle fall, looks like DiCaprio might be every bit the savior as his movie character Jack—except this time, it turned out much better for him!
