Barbados has been known as an island of holistic wellness and healing centers for centuries. For example, George Washington was there way back in 1751 in hopes of finding treatment for a sick relative. So, if you’re searching for a Caribbean destination that would be an ideal wellness retreat, Barbados is it. Because of their ongoing focus on health, the Barbados residents have populated the island with even more holistic wellness centers over the years.
Acupuncture, reflexology, chakra therapy, reiki, crystal healing or Ayurvedic massages? If you had to pick one, which would it be? (Fortunately, you wouldn’t have to. The island has it all, and I’ll highlight some of the many wellness options available at healing centers and hotel spas. And, don’t forget that any of these services can be arranged at your Villa, too.)
Spa Day: Do Not Disturb
Now, on to planning a day of self-care! The island’s spas offer every kind of holistic wellness treatments. You could spend an entire day rejuvenating, or, you could book a daily 1 hour massage instead. Whatever your preferences are, it will be easy to find what you’re in the mood for.
Golden Touch Spa in the Golden Sands Hotel is “tech-savvy luxury”. Choose your own music by using their free Wi-Fi and iPads. Even pick your mood lighting in the renovated massage rooms.
Their body scrubs are handmade at the spa itself. The Vanilla Lavender Scrub and Wrap is packed with nutrients, omega oils and botanical extracts. You’ll smell sweet and delicious afterwards.
Sugar Cane Spa has specially designed hydrotherapy tubs for healing water baths, a steam room and an area to relax by the spa pool. The spa’s massage offerings are impressive, but the Tropical Ravine Escape package is a dream!
-Take a dip in the Sugar Cane spa pool before getting a passion flower Golden Treasures Scrub. A massage table is waiting for you afterwards: aromatherapy oils and ultimate relaxation. Then a customized facial will have your face glowing.
I’d be completely ready for a long nap after that.
Schotherapy Internationalé Day Spa is the one spa you shouldn’t miss. The concept is to combine Western and Eastern philosophies for holistic wellness. Based on your consultation, you’ll get a personalized treatment. Master therapist Schofield Hewitt has worked with many celeb clients and is highly praised.
Chakra Spa at the Accra Beach Hotel uses luxury products like Dermalogica for their holistic spa treatments. The Chakra Spa’s signature products, Chakra Organics, are made with local organic ingredients. Book the Chakra Ceremony Wrap which is a unique treatment, and made of local spices and sugar cane.
Holistic Wellness Centers
The Natural Energy Centre is a healing energy center focusing on the mind-body connection. Meaning, our thoughts cause energy to linger physically, mentally and emotionally. The practitioners use healing methods such as Energy Balancing, Aura Clearing and Karmic Clearing. For health and wellness, they also use energy medicine like Reiki and Quantum Touch, depending on what you need.
Golden Hands Holistic Centre provides a range of techniques for wellness including crystal therapy, past life regression and massage therapy. To these practitioners, healing comes from within. So, their wellness methods give you the opportunity to decide which therapy suits you best.
Yoga and Meditation
Yoga Samudra welcomes all levels for the Vinyasa flow classes, which combine strength and flexibility while working with breathing and meditation. Restorative yoga is available twice weekly.
Santosha Yoga is where to go for floating yoga! Rent a stand-up paddleboard and head out to the sea with your instructor. It’s an activity for anyone, even if you don’t have experience. And, yes, you’re going to fall off once or twice. All part of the fun!
There’s also Full Moon Yoga on the Beach and Moonlit Beach Yoga with music and candles.
Mind.Body.Spirit.Barbados is where you can do beach yoga and meditation under the stars. You can also experience floating meditations in the ocean, shamanic drumming, meditations in a flower cave, and chakra healing.
If we want to do well in life, we need to be well. The people of Barbados know this is true, too. And, when you visit their home, consider taking the opportunity to experience complete transformation during your vacation.
Namaste.
