You’ve heard of golden sand, white sand, maybe even black sand…but pink sand? Yes, such as thing does exist, and there are a handful of pink sand beaches in the Caribbean. Here are some of the loveliest Caribbean pink sand beaches on our planet:

1. Pink Sands Beach, Harbor Island
Harbor Island in the Bahamas is home to one of the brightest pink beaches in world. The sand is very soft, despite the fact that it gets its color from millions of tiny broken pieces of coral and shells, and calcium carbonate particles left by foraminifera. Foraminifera are microscopic red and pink shelled organisms that live in surrounding coral reefs.
Pink Sands Beach is nearly 3 miles long, even though Harbor Island is one of the smaller islands in the Bahamas. It is said to be great for swimming, fishing, and snorkeling.

2. Horseshoe Bay Beach, Bermuda
The rose-colored sand on this beach looks brighter on some days more than others, but there’s no denying the fact that Horseshoe Bay is one of the best beaches in Bermuda. It has it all– the signature turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea, jagged rock formations, and a long stretch of white or pale pink sand. There are deep ocean waters for adventurous folks, and shallow natural pools for the kids.
Although access to the beach is free, you’ll need to bring some cash if you want to rent umbrellas and chairs for the day.

3. Crane Beach, Barbados
Crane Beach in Barbados is so beautiful, it has often served as a backdrop for Caribbean weddings and wedding photos. The beach has both calm areas that are great for swimming, and stronger waves and currents to satisfy surfers and boogie boarders. In addition, it was once added to the list of the 10 best beaches in the world by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
The story behind its name is quite interesting. Although you might assume it was named after the majestic white birds that often appear in seaside settings, it actually takes its name from a different sort of crane. Crane beach used to be a cargo port, and a large metal crane once stood nearby to help unload ships.

4. French Leave Beach, Eleuthera
French Leave beach is a gorgeous, vast stretch of soft white and rose-hued sand. It is clean, free of debris, and rarely crowded. It has wide tree-less plots of pure, soft sand. You can find it in Governor’s Harbour on Eleuthera, one of the largest islands of the Bahamas. This is a fabulous beach for swimming and taking long walks.
