“One happy island” it is. If you’ve wondered what makes it so happy, read on!
At only 70 square miles, Aruba might be a small island, but it’s filled with big love. The island is home to over 40 different nationalities and has one of the lowest crime rates in the Caribbean. The locals are incredibly friendly, love chatting up visitors, and they have some tales to tell! Plus, you’ll get the greatest insider tips for an authentic Aruban experience.
Vitamin D For Days
Breezy and warm just about every day of the year, the island has a dry climate with low humidity. This one happy island hardly gets any rain, even in low season, so the days are bright and sunny. Aruba is kept safe from hurricanes, too, because it’s located just on the outside of the hurricane belt. For example, it was way back in 2007 when Level 2 Hurricane Felix caused only slight damage when it touched Aruba. So, naturally, that much sunshine would keep anyone in a good mood!
One Happy Island’s Pride
Because they have a desert climate, Aruba’s number one export is aloe. This magical medicinal plant has been grown there for decades. Abundantly! Their line of skincare and haircare products are made locally and I highly recommend buying one or 10 of the “Aruba Aloe” products! If you can’t make it to the museum and factory (free tour!), you can find them anywhere from the airport to hotel spas.
A sustainable Caribbean island, Aruba annually hosts the Reef Care Project which raises environmental awareness. This year, the event takes place on September 23rd, and there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for visitors. Alongside the local residents, together you can make an impact by cleaning up Aruba’s beautiful beaches. Trash and debris are removed from both the land and sea, as divers and snorkelers go underwater to protect the marine life.
Activities For Everyone, Aruba-Style
Family Goals
If you’re traveling as a family, kids will love visiting the island’s Donkey Sanctuary . Be sure to let them know that the Arubans have saved and protected every donkey living there.
Can’t swim or snorkel? Go under the sea and stay dry on the Atlantis Submarine Expedition. A certified U.S. Coast Guard vessel will take you over 100 feet deep into the ocean to see historical shipwreck sites and the Barcadera Reef. Little ones over the age of 4 are also invited aboard!
Fun and Romance for Adults
If you’re looking for a romantic night out, definitely visit the California Lighthouse, an iconic landmark with an idyllic view for a gorgeous sunset. Although, you’ve got to keep at least one night free to check out to Aruba’s cool, eclectic nightlife. Go salsa dancing, head to one of the dive bars for some karaoke, hit up a wine bar or even the island’s popular Frank Sinatra dinner show. Oh, and there are casinos if you’re in a gambling mood!
Adventure For Any Age
There’s Aruban culture and history at Arikok National Park where you’ve got caves, beaches and landmarks to explore. Make it a full day and venture out to the Natural Pool, one of the most popular sites to see and experience. The “pool” is volcanic rock that formed a basin filled with clear blue sea. If the waves are calm, you can swim and snorkel as long as you bring water shoes! Since the pool is only accessible by a horseback ride or an off-road vehicle, it’s common to use a tour company.
Overall, the spirit of one happy island is happiness. Genuine, kind-hearted folks who take pride in their island and its resources. And, there are more than enough good vibes and sunshine for everyone.
A vacation is nothing without the perfect place to stay. If you like golf we would recommend you to stay at Tierra del sol, for the beach view we advise the OceanZ or Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort. If you are coming with a big family Villa royal Aruba is perfect for any occasion.
When you book with Key Caribe, concierge service provided by Barbulet Concierge is included as part of your luxury Villa services. Contact reservations@keycaribe.com and any of these activities can be arranged for your stay.
