Providenciales could be called the capital of tourism in the island country of Turks and Caicos. It is the island with the largest population, and has the most developed cities. Known for its amazing sandy shores, Providenciales is the perfect choice for a relaxing beach getaway.
Furthermore, Trip Advisor named Providenciales the best beach destination in the world in 2011. Mild tropical weather and crystal clear waters make this island one of the best beach vacation outposts you’ll find in the Caribbean.
Of course, there are many Caribbean islands to choose from. Nevertheless, Providenciales is truly special! Here are some reasons why:
Why choose Providenciales?
This island is the most tourist-oriented place in Turks and Caicos. That means you’ll find fabulous accommodations to suit your style. Whether you prefer a colonial style villa or a modern beach house, you’ll find your perfect home-away-from-home in Providenciales.

Furthermore, Providenciales has plenty of beautiful beaches for everyone to enjoy. You won’t have to worry about crowds, since this island is one of the Caribbean’s best-kept secrets! (Shhh…don’t tell!) Here are a few of our favorites:
Best beaches in Providenciales
- Grace Bay Beach. The winner of a Trip Advisor Traveler’s Choice award, Grace Bay Beach sports a lovely long stretch of soft, white sand, and sparkling, clean ocean water. It’s a great place to walk barefoot, swim and snorkel, and relax with family and friends.
- Taylor Bay Beach. This beach is a bit harder to get to, but it’s well-worth the effort! Its seclusion is part of its charm. Rivaling Grace Bay Beach in beauty, this serene spot is the perfect place to go if you want a gorgeous beach all to yourself.
- Leeward Beach. This charming little beach isn’t as expansive as Grace Bay. However, its claim to fame is its unique blue-toned water and its collection of seashells. You can find many large shells, including conch, on this beach.
- Sapodilla Bay. This beach has the signature white sand and turquoise water you love, plus all the amenities you need. Umbrellas, chairs, and even jet skis are available to rent. In addition, this beach is known for being home to stingrays.

More things to do in Providenciales
There is plenty to discover in Providenciales besides the beautiful beaches. For example, you can rent a kayak and take a tour of Chalk Sound. It’s a wonderful area with tiny cays and secluded beaches that must be explored by boat. Most of the sound is only about 4 feet deep, so it’s easy to paddle around and navigate. Visitors have reported friendly iguanas popping up here and there as their kayaks reach the islands. A tour of Chalk Sound is a tranquil, relaxing experience. With so much to explore, you can spend the whole day there!

In addition, in Providenciales you can take a parasailing tour, go deep-sea fishing, enjoy fine dining, and more! For more information about activities to enjoy in Turks and Caicos, read What to Do in Turks and Caicos.
